We know that HD is a multi genetic and multifactorial disease.
Do you have knowledge of active scientific research in your country (university or commercial) on the genes that are suspect to be partly responsible for the disease of HD ?
-
Are breedclubs like your own Rottweilerclub involved in those researches ?
-
-
Do you think that the system in your country allows to collect enough usefull information about HD to have a clear and complete view on the degree of affection of the breed ?
-
-
Do you think that the system in your country allows to collect the necessary information to identify the genetic aspects of HD concerning certain dogs or bloodlines ?

We know that testing individual breeding dogs (parents) is an important step to help breed out HD as a genetic (multifactorial) disease but that such individual results offer no guarantees, not only because HD also has external causes but also because the responsable genes are probably recessive and have limited or variable penetrance.
The use of breeding values may be a very important instrument.
Is your Rottweilerclub of kennelclub familiar with establishing and using continuously corrected "breed-values" for breeding dogs on HD ?

If the IFR would set up a plan (under supervision or guidance of scientists) to collect and exchange information (example by motivating members to participate with their dogs and/or to publish or collect information on diagnosed affections), would your club be willing and able to support this ?
